Pinoy Trends: Filipino girl group 4th Power enters X Factor UK
After 4th Powers’ successful audition at X Factor UK, viewers were questioning the legitimacy of the group after it has emerged that the group had already achieved success in the Philippines and was considered as professional singers.
However, it was said that there are no rules preventing anyone who has appeared on other shows from applying for The X Factor. So they are safe to advance in the competition.
“4th Power” composed of the sisters, Almira, Celena, Mylene and Irene told “This Morning” hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that they’re simply ‘chasing their dream’. They also said that they had come to England because they want to impress Simon Cowell and see Queen Elizabeth. They said ‘We’re chasing our dreams wherever it’s possible. We want to reach our dreams of having that prize and helping our family to have our own house and not be transferring about in different parts of Manila.’
Before entering X Factor UK, the group also joined South Korea’s X Factor equivalent, Superstar K6 under the name of M.I.C.A. where they have reached the semi-finals. They have also appeared on Philippine Television including Pinoy Idol and Showtime as Cercado Sisters.
They did not fail to impress the X Factor UK judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw by surprise when they shook off their shy personas and delivered a bold and confident performance of Jessie J’s Bang, Bang. Speaking of the judges’ reaction, the girls explained: ‘It was crazy, it was insane. It was like a dream come true. We were like really, literally floating in the air.’
The girls are really happy with their performance. They cheerfully said: ‘We got a standing ovation from all of the judges and Simon Cowell, for us he was the famous judge in the Philippines. He is straightforward in his critique and we thought he was going to be rude to us, but then we saw the standing ovation we were crying and breaking down on stage.’
They have survived X Factor UK’s first cut with Big four (4) “YES” from the judges. Question is, will they make it to the finals? We hope so. Good luck girls.
